General
Due to the corona pandemic, the student council has set up a discord server for itself and other student bodies. This should enable the holding of meetings and other meetings in digital form. In the following, information on joining the server as well as hints for its use are described.
Joining
You can join via the following link. Only participation in discussions in voice channels and reading in the public text channels is allowed for all members. For further permissions the role "Verified" is required.
A user account is required to use Discord. For this purpose you have to register with Discord. When entering a server, the account is linked to the visited server, so that 'no new account has to be created on a second visit. It is recommended that you download the Discord app, as problems with the release of the microphone are often reported when using the browser.
Verification
To ensure university public communication, most channels can only be viewed with the "Verified" role. In addition, verification is necessary to write messages.
By means of an automated process the role can be assigned to itself.
- Open the discord server of the student council
- Search in the right column (the so-called "member list") for the user "Stracki#5333
- The user can be recognized by his purple name and the badge "BOT
- Click on the user and select the field "Message to @Stracki
- Enter the command
$verify e-mail
- (
e-mail
replace with your OVGU mail address)
- (
- Open your email box and open the mail from "noreply@faking.cool"
- Copy the command (incl. token) from the mail and send it to the bot as well
- Now you should have the role "Verified" and your name should be green in the member list
Rolling
Administrators and moderators can be recognized in the member list by their red names.
- Administrator
- The administrators manage the server. They can create new channels and/or customize the permissions for individual channels.
- Moderator
- The moderators are experienced discord users and will help you with (technical) problems.
- Verified
- Members with this role have verified themselves and thus have access to university public channels. They can also write news and much more.
In addition to the roles for differentiating the authorizations on the server, there are also roles corresponding to the organs of the student body. These roles grant access to internal channels and are assigned by the moderators upon personal request. For this purpose an authentication via photo / video call must be made.
Netiquette
- Spam, CAPS LOCK or advertising are unwanted.
- No (serious) insults are tolerated.
- Racism or agitation leads immediately to banishment.
Our moderates are authorized to admonish or remove a member from the server in case of disregard of the netiquette. In exceptional cases, a ban is also possible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I have to be re-verified every time?
Actually, you don't. Once you have registered with Discord you will use your account for all servers you join after that. Once you have registered your account here on our server and received the role Verifiziert, it will remain linked to your account forever. So don't be a fool and remember your login credentials.
How do I join a channel?
In the channel overview (left!) simply click on the desired channel.
Channels with a # represent chat rooms. Here you can write with other people, upload documents or pictures or read what has been discussed in the past. P.S.: In the memberlist (right!) you can see who can also read in the current chat room.
Channels with a sound-icon represent voice rooms. Here you can talk with a headset. Please make sure to click on the red telephone receiver when leaving the chat room. Otherwise you will still be heard in this room.
Why can't I change my nickname?
On Discord there are usernames and nicknames. The username is your self-chosen name, which is valid for all servers you have joined. The nickname is an individual name for each server. On our server we want to provide anonymity for the members, so only the moderators can change the nicknames of the members. As an exception to this rule, the elected members are named from us. They get their real name set as nickname to identify them as contact person for you.
How do I see which roles I have assigned?
To do this, simply find your user in the member display and click on your name. The popup window shows all your assigned roles. In the same way, you can check which roles other members are assigned to.
How can I access the internal channels of the student councils?
If you are part of a student council, you can also have the appropriate role assigned to you. This gives you extended permissions and access to internal channels. Write a message to a moderator to get a requested role.
